Apex Legends to shut down for Nintendo Switch: All you need to know

Battle royale game Apex Legends is going to shut down for Nintendo Switch, Respawn Entertainment and Electronic Arts have announced. Service for the Switch version of Apex Legends will be discontinued starting August 4, 2026. That makes Season 29 the final Apex Legends update on Nintendo Switch. However, the Switch 2 version of the game will remain active. The other platform versions of Apex Legends (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC) will also remain unaffected.

In a website post, Respawn Entertainment noted: “Beginning August 4, 2026, in-game premium currency will no longer be available for purchase on Nintendo Switch, though any existing balances can still be used before August 4, 2026. Players can use any existing balances from Nintendo Switch on Nintendo Switch 2.

All players' progress, purchases, and earnings are tied to their individual EA accounts. Everything that has been earned or purchased, including Apex Coins and cosmetics, will carry over to Nintendo Switch 2, even if you purchase Nintendo Switch 2 after August 4, 2026. Please note that in some regions, local laws require you to use digital currency within 180 days of purchase. All the above only applies to Nintendo Switch and not Nintendo Switch 2.”

Please note that only the Switch version of Apex Legends is shutting down; the individual Apex Legends player accounts will remain active. Players can choose to transfer to any other compatible Apex Legends platform at any time. But note that the digital currency can only be transferred from Switch to Switch 2, not to any other platforms

To transfer your Apex Legends data from Nintendo Switch to Nintendo Switch 2, you can either do a system transfer through game settings on your Nintendo Switch or sign into your Nintendo Switch 2 device with your Nintendo account information, download the game, and sign in with your EA account.
