Pakistan pacer Naseem Shah's residence in the Mayar area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Lower Dir was attacked by unidentified armed men. The incident as reported by Dawn took place in the early hours of Monday, around 1:45am local time.
As per the report, the attackers fired multiple shots at the main gate of the house and fled the scene soon after.
A case was registered by Mayar police and an investigation is underway. The CCTV footage of nearby houses are being examined and security have been deployed at the cricketer's residence.
As per the initial findings of Lower Dir police, the incident is possibly due to a land dispute or regional enmity and has no links to any act of terrorism.
While Shah's father has been assured of early arrests, neighbours have refuted any claims of enmity or dispute with anyone.
Naseem, however, has remained with the Pakistan squad and has been named in the playing XI for the first ODI against Sri Lanka, which is currently underway in Rawalpindi.
The three-match ODI series in Rawalpindi will be followed by a T20I tri-series, which features Zimbabwe as the third team.
Meanwhile, there have been no updates on Naseem's two younger brothers - Hunain and Ubaid - if they were present at the residence during the time of the incident. His siblings are also professional cricketers.
Hunain is an all-rounder, and had recently scored half-century and six-wicket haul at the Quaid-e-Azam trophy match last week, helping his side win the match by ten wickets. He had also hit the winning runs for Islamabad United in the 2024 Pakistan Super League (PSL) final.
Ubaid, on the other hand, plays for Multan Sultans in the PSL. Like his brother, Ubaid's last appearance was also at the Quaid-e-Azam trophy towards the end of October where he represented Lahore Whites.
