It's always a rare sight to see a wicketkeeper roll his arms and on Saturday Rishabh Pant did exactly the same. The wicketkeeper-batter, representing Purani Dili 6 in the inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League, was seen bowling in the tournament opener against South Delhi Superstarz, which the former lost by three wickets. Pant took over the bowling duties in the final over, which was more of a formality, as South Delhi required just one run. He started with a full toss on the batter's pads, which the latter gently pushed towards long-on and completed a run to wrap up the show.
Earlier, Pant failed to express himself with the bat and managed 35 off 32 deliveries, leading to wide criticism from fans on social media. Pant's innings featured four boundaries and one maximum but his strike-rate of 109 on a flat surface was highlighted by the critics.
The swashbuckling cricketer had met with an unfortunate car accident on New Years' eve in 2022 and had recently restarted playing, with the 2024 edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) being his first tournament. He then travelled to the USA and West Indies for the ICC T20 World Cup, playing a key role in India's successful campaign. Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) president Rohan Jaitley and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Rajeev Shukla felicitated the wicketkeeper for his performance in the ICC T20 World Cup.
Pant, however, won't feature any further in the tournament as he will be joining Team B for Duleep Trophy, which starts from September 5. He was available only for one match.
