Prithvi Shaw made a strong statement by smashing a magnificent century for his new domestic team, Maharashtra, against his old team, Mumbai in a practice match on Tuesday. Shaw started his First-Class career with Mumbai in the 2016-17 season and made his Test debut the following year. He parted ways with his long-time domestic side earlier this year.
Shaw's inconsistent form and fitness problems have drawn criticism in recent years, but now that he has switched teams, he is concentrating on quieting his detractors. The daring batsman demonstrated his dominance over the Mumbai bowlers by smashing his century off 140 balls. He was eventually dismissed for 181(220) balls, a knock featuring 21 boundaries and three maximums.

However, soon after his dismissal, videos emerged of Shaw being surrounded by his former Mumbai teammates, which led to a heated moment on the field. In an attempt to defuse the tension, one of the umpires even tried to guide Shaw out of the commotion but one of the fielder also followed. Later there was some discussion between Shaw and the fielder with the umpire in between as the other batter present in the middle joined in to sort out matters.
Shaw eventually walked off alone but on his way he did pass a gesture towards the fielder. Here is the video of the incident:

Meanwhile, Shaw's opening partner, Arshin Kulkarni, also slammed 150.
Shaw has so far enjoyed a good show with his new team. He had launched his Maharashtra career with a brilliant century in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament against Chhattisgarh.
Shaw has represented India in five Tests and six ODIs. He was dropped from the Mumbai Ranji Trophy side last season because of issues with his discipline and fitness.
Shaw's final appearance for Mumbai came in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy final, where they defeated Madhya Pradesh by five wickets, following which he missed the rest of the season. He then failed to find any buyers at the IPL 2025 mega-auction.
