India head coach finally addressed the much-awaited topic of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's participation in the 2027 World Cup after the second Test in New Delhi against the West Indies. Gambhir explained that the tournament is more than two years away and hoped that the team have a wonderful performance in the upcoming tour in Australia.
"They are quality players, and their experience will be invaluable. With the 2027 World Cup still 2.5 years away, it's important to stay focused on the present. Kohli and Rohit are both exceptional players, and their return will be a big boost. Hopefully, they have a successful tour, and more importantly, the team comes out with a strong series performance in Australia," Gambhir said in a post-match press conference.
The duo of Kohli and Rohit have been the face of India's white-ball setup for a nearly two decades now. They will once again walk out in Blue for an important series against Australia starting from October 19.
Both players have been practicing in isolation. Rohit has been working on his fitness in Mumbai reportedly shedding close to nine kilos whereas Kohli has been sweating it out in the nets in London.
Talking about the match, opener KL Rahul scored fifty to help India defeat the West Indies by 7 wickets in the second Test on the fifth and final day. Shubman Gill-led India completed a clean sweep of the 2-match series on Tuesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
