Today, on July 10, 2024, a giant airplane-sized asteroid is approaching Earth along with some comets. Several asteroids passed by posing potential risks, that caused NASA scientists to be concerned and this 2024 ME 1 will be continued be to observed by NASA carefully.
NASA has shared details on this event that will take place soon, this asteroid named 2024 ME 1 is a giant that is 130 foot in size. According to the NASA analysis, the asteroid will make a close approach up to 2.7 miles away from Earth.
ME 1 asteroid is named after the archetype object 121 Amor. 2024 ME1 is classified as a near-Earth object (NEO), which means its orbit brings it into close proximity with Earth. NASA is continuously assessing the potential threat asteroid could cause.
ME 1 is not considered a "potentially hazardous object," it will not be sticking to the Earth as it is as close as our Moon and is also smaller in size it doesn't pose a threat. This asteroid has a speed of 30,217 KMPH while it comes in our home planet close proximity.
There is no risk of impact however it is still crucial to constantly track to assure the safety of it passing by Earth without harm. This asteroid will not be coming to our home planet for at least for next 100 years.
Center for Near-Earth Object Studies (CNEOS) is a system that analyses and understands its full range of potential orbits which are crucial as it will help in knowing risks and preparing any necessary mitigation strategies.
If any risk is reported then the information will be shared with NASA which will further involve a comprehensive, multi-step process aimed at confirming the threat and planning to dissolve the threat.
