NASA on June 28, officially announced the delays in the spacewalks until the end of July. This spacewalk was planned to happen on July 2, the space organization was planning to conduct the spacewalk on this date.
However, due to the coolant leak or water leak from the spacesuit, the spacewalk is now getting delayed. This leak is the reoccurring issue faced during the spacewalk. Previously in March 2022. European Space Agency (ESA) also faced technical issues when the astronaut Matthias Maurer noticed a buildup of water in his helmet after extravehicular activity.
Bill Spetch, operations integration manager for NASA's International Space Station Program has mentioned in his statement during a press conference that "Given that, we're currently at the end of July for our next EVA," confirming the delay.
Adding further, "So, we want to give the team enough time to go understand what happened on this one and make sure we don't have to make any changes,"
During that spacewalk, NASA astronauts Tracy Caldwell Dyson and Mike Barratt were supposed to work outside the International Space Station (ISS) for about 6.5 hours, but they had to wrap up after just 31 minutes when Dyson’s spacesuit began leaking water (used as a coolant).
The root cause of the leak, which occurred in an “umbilical” connecting to the suit, remains under investigation.
The spacewalk delay will now have Dyson and Barratt two astronauts duo for future preparations by upgrading and inspecting the station and the space suit according to NASA.
