Diwali Lakshmi-Ganesha Puja Guide 2025: Diwali is the perfect occasion to worship Shri Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha for wealth, prosperity, and well-being. This detailed guide provides step-by-step Lakshmi Puja Vidhi 2025 and Ganesha Puja rituals during Diwali, including Shodashopachara Puja, mantras, and fasting guidelines.

Lakshmi Puja Vidhi

During Diwali, devotees should purchase a new Pratima (प्रतिमा) or Murti (मूर्ती) of Maha Lakshmi. The Puja Vidhi for the new Murti involves all sixteen steps of worship, known as Shodashopachara Puja (षोडशोपचार पूजा).

1. Dhyanam (ध्यानम्): Begin the Puja by meditating on Bhagawati Lakshmi in front of the installed Murti.

2. Avahanam (आवाहनम्): Invoke Shri Lakshmi with the Avahan Mantra and Aavahan Mudra.

3. Pushpanjali-Asanam (पुष्पाञ्जलि-आसनम्): Offer five flowers to provide a seat for Shri Lakshmi while chanting the Pushpanjali Mantra.

4. Swagatam (स्वागतम्): Welcome Shri Lakshmi with folded hands using the Swagata Mantra.

5. Padyam (पाद्यम्): Offer water to wash the feet of Shri Lakshmi while chanting the Padyam Mantra.

6. Arghyam (अर्घ्यम्): Offer water for head Abhishekam with Arghya Mantra.

7. Snanam (स्नानम्): Offer water for Shri Lakshmi’s bath while chanting the Snana Mantra.

8. Panchamrita-Snanam (पञ्चामृत-स्नानम्): Offer Panchamrita bath to the deity using the Panchamrita Mantra.

9. Gandha-Snanam (गन्ध-स्नानम्): Offer scented bath with Gandha-Snana Mantra.

10. Shuddha-Snanam (शुद्ध-स्नानम्): Offer pure water for bath while chanting Shuddha-Snana Mantra.

11. Vastram (वस्त्रम्): Offer new clothes to Shri Lakshmi with Vastra Mantra.

12. Madhuparkam (मधुपर्कम्): Offer honey and milk using Madhuparka Mantra.

13. Abhushanam (आभूषणम्): Offer jewellery to Shri Lakshmi with Abhushana Mantra.

14. Raktachandanam (रक्तचन्दनम्): Offer red sandalwood while chanting Raktachandana Mantra.

15. Sinduram (सिन्दूरम्): Apply vermilion to the Murti for Tilak with Sindura Mantra.

16. Kumkumam (कुङ्कुमम्): Offer Kumkum for Akhand Saubhagya while chanting Kumkuma Mantra.

17. Abira-Gulalam (अबीर-गुलालम्): Offer auspicious Abira-Gulal with Abira-Gulal Mantra.

18. Sugandhita-Dravyam (सुगन्धित-द्रव्यम्): Offer scented oils using Sugandhita-Dravya Mantra.

19. Akshatah (अक्षताः): Offer unbroken rice to Shri Lakshmi while chanting Akshata Mantra.

20. Gandha-Samarpanam/Chandan-Samarpanam (गन्ध-समर्पणम्/चन्दन-समर्पणम्): Offer aromatic Chandan paste with Chandan Samarpana Mantra.

21. Pushpa-Samarpanam (पुष्प-समर्पणम्): Offer flowers to the deity using Pushpa-Samarpana Mantra.

22. Anga-Pujanam (अङ्ग-पूजनम्): Worship Shri Lakshmi’s body parts with Anga Pujana Mantras.

23. Ashta-Siddhi Puja (अष्ट-सिद्धि पूजा): Perform Ashta-Siddhi Puja with Gandha, Akshata, and Pushpa while chanting the Ashta Siddhi Mantra.

24. Ashta-Lakshmi Puja (अष्ट-लक्ष्मी पूजा): Worship Ashta-Lakshmi with Akshata, Chandan, and flowers using Ashta Lakshmi Mantra.

25. Dhupa-Samarpanam (धूप-समर्पणम्): Offer Dhoop while chanting Dhupa Samarpana Mantra.

26. Dipa-Samarpanam (दीप-समर्पणम्): Light and offer Deepak with Dipa Samarpana Mantra.

27. Naivedya-Samarpanam (नैवेद्य-समर्पणम्): Offer Naivedhya including sweets, curd, milk, and Ghee with Naivedya Mantra.

28. Achamana-Samarpanam/Jal-Samarpanam (आचमन-समर्पणम्/जल-समर्पणम्): Offer water for Achamana, hand and face cleansing, with Achamana Mantra.

29. Tambula-Samarpanam (ताम्बूल-समर्पणम्): Offer Tambool (betel leaves and nuts) to Shri Lakshmi with Tambul Mantra.

30. Dakshina (दक्षिणा): Offer Dakshina to Shri Lakshmi using Dakshina Mantra.

31. Pradakshina (प्रदक्षिणा): Perform symbolic circumambulation with Pradakshina Mantra.

32. Vandana-Sahit-Pushpanjalih (वन्दना-सहित-पुष्पाञ्जलिः): Perform Vandana and offer flowers with Vandana Mantra.

33. Sashtanga-Pranamah (साष्टाङ्ग-प्रणामः): Offer eight-limbed Pranam with Sashtanga Pranama Mantra.

34. Kshama-Prarthana (क्षमा-प्रार्थना): Seek forgiveness for mistakes during Puja using Kshama-Prarthana Mantra.

Additional Diwali Puja Guidelines

  • Observe full day fasting (Nirjal or Phalahar) according to body capability.
  • Perform Puja during the appropriate Diwali Muhurat considering Lagna, Pradosh time, and Amavasya Tithi.
  • Include Kuber Puja, Bahi-Khata Puja, Saraswati Puja, Maha Kali Puja, Deep-Malika Puja, and Navagraha Puja as needed.
  • Ensure Deepak lit during Puja continues to glow throughout the night.
  • Read Shri-Sukta, Lakshmi-Sukta, and other Stutis of Shri Lakshmi after Puja; a full-night vigil is recommended.

2. Lakshmi Ganesha Dhyana Mantra:

Dantabhaye Chakravarau Dadhanam, Karagragam Swarnghatam Trinetram।Dhritabjayalingitamabdhi Putrya-Lakshmi Ganesham Kanakabhamide॥

3. Rinharta Ganapati Mantra:

Om Ganesha Rinam Chhindhi Varenyam Hum Namah Phat॥
