Jammu, June 11: In a spiritually significant start to the Amarnath Yatra 2025, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) performed the first puja on Jyeshtha Purnima at the scenic Tawi riverfront in Jammu. This marks the ceremonial beginning of preparations for the much-awaited annual pilgrimage to the Amarnath Cave Shrine, one of Hinduism’s most sacred sites dedicated to Lord Shiva.

The Jyeshtha Purnima puja, observed with great devotion on Wednesday, was attended by local devotees and members of the VHP. With chants and offerings made to invoke divine blessings, the ritual held at the Tawi riverfront symbolises spiritual readiness and sets the tone for the grand religious journey that lies ahead.

This tradition of offering the first puja before the Amarnath Yatra reflects the deep-rooted spiritual culture of the region and the faith of millions who participate in the pilgrimage every year.

To ensure smooth conduct of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2025, a high-level security coordination meeting was held on Tuesday. The meeting was chaired by SSP Udhampur Amod Ashok Nagpure, IPS, and attended by top police officials including Additional SPs, SDPOs, DySPs, and SHOs from various regions like Udhampur, Majalta, Rehambal, and Chenani.

Key Focus Areas Discussed:

  • Inter-agency coordination for efficient security planning
  • Intelligence sharing for early threat detection
  • Traffic and crowd management during the pilgrimage
  • Medical and emergency response infrastructure

Special attention was given to anti-narcotics operations, with SSP Nagpure directing proactive efforts to dismantle any drug networks in the region. He urged officers to maintain high alert levels and remain fully prepared with mock drills and regular briefings throughout the Yatra period.

The Amarnath Yatra is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage to the Amarnath Cave Shrine, located at an altitude of approximately 3,888 meters in the Himalayas of Jammu and Kashmir. The holy cave enshrines a naturally formed ice Shivling, believed to represent Lord Shiva, attracting lakhs of devotees every year.

Traditionally held during the Shravan month (July–August) as per the Hindu calendar, the yatra is organized by the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) in coordination with state security forces and civil administration. Pilgrims undertake a challenging trek through the mountains, driven by deep devotion and the belief that darshan of the Shivling grants divine blessings and spiritual liberation (moksha).

With the first puja on Jyeshtha Purnima complete and preparations in full swing, Amarnath Yatra 2025 is set to welcome pilgrims with renewed spiritual energy and robust administrative support. As both faith and security converge, authorities aim to ensure a peaceful, safe, and spiritually fulfilling journey for all devotees making their way to the divine abode of Lord Shiva in the heart of the Himalayas.
