In yet another verbal stumble, US President Joe Biden described himself as “the first Black woman to serve with a Black president” during a radio interview.
In a clip of the interview, that is being shared widely on social media, Biden can be heard stumbling over his words and struggling to find the right phrase before saying: "I am proud to have been the first Black woman to serve with a Black president.”
Biden, 81, may have been referring to Kamala Harris - who is the woman and black Vice President of America and former US President Barack Obama - the first ever black President of the country.
NEW: President Biden goes on incredibly confusing rant, calls himself the first black woman to serve with a black president. He also called himself the “first president that got elected statewide in the state of Delaware, when I was a kid.” “By the way, I'm proud to be the, as… pic.twitter.com/VMNtVe85Pz— Collin Rugg (@CollinRugg) July 4, 2024
According to a New York Times report, Biden also made a mistake earlier in the interview when he asserted that he had been the first president elected statewide in Delaware.
Even during his brief four-minute speech on Fourth of July, Biden tripped over his words. He began a story about Trump, calling him “one of our colleagues, the former president” and then adding, “probably shouldn’t say, at any rate” before abruptly ending the story and moving on.
Although, he assured the people of America that is "not going anywhere".
The latest slip of the tongue comes amid growing concerns among Americans and Democrats about Biden's health and his ability to continue as President. Following his disastrous presidential debate with former President Donald Trump, where Biden repeatedly slurred and mumbled, there were calls across the political divide for the US president to quit the race to the White House.
Every appearance of Biden is now being closely watched the Democrat's shaky showing at the June 27 faceoff with with Republican rival Donald Trump.
Vice President Kamala Harris is the leading contender to take his place in the Nov. 5 election if Biden were to drop out, sources have said, though his allies believe he can assuage the concerns of voters and donors.
The White House has repeatedly said the president was suffering from a cold and jet lag on the night of the debate.
On Wednesday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden had not had any kind of medical exam since his annual physical in February.
"He did not get checked out by the doctor. It's a cold, guys. It's a cold," she said at a news briefing, in a damage control effort.
