Northeast Rains: Over 1400 Tourists Stranded in Sikkim After Bridge Collapses in Teesta River

Over 1,400 tourists are stranded and 9 reported missing in North Sikkim after the Phidang Bailey Bridge was damaged by the strong Teesta River current following continuous heavy rainfall and landslides. The bridge, a key link in the Dzongu region, has been weakened as one of its bases broke off. Despite repeated local appeals, authorities reportedly delayed action. BRO personnel are working to restore access, but rising water levels pose a severe risk.
