A 38-year-old woman, who was threatening to kill herself after she had an argument with her live-in partner, got run over by a train at the Raja Ki Mandi station in Agra. A CCTV footage of the incident has been doing rounds on social media.
The clip shows the woman, identified as Rani, jumping onto the railway tracks from the platform allegedly to scare street food vendor Kishore, India Today reported.
Kishore told the police that Rani was a widower and her husband had died due to excessive drinking. He had been living with Rani for about a year in Barf Wali Gali in Lohamandi area.
The incident happened after Kishore returned home around 10 pm on Monday, drunk. This led to an argument between the couple over his drinking habits. As the fight escalated, Rani allegedly threatened to commit suicide by jumping in front of a train. When Kishore dismissed her threats, she led him to Raja Ki Mandi station where they sat on one of the platform benches and continued with the argument.
Around 11.30, Rani jumped onto the tracks to scare Kishore but was unaware that Kerala Express travelling from Agra Cantt to New Delhi was approaching. She did try to climb back onto the platform, but was crushed between the platform and the train.
RPF officers rushed her to a nearby hospital but she succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Her body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, the police said. Rani is survived by three sons with her late husband.
