According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, parts of Maharashtra, Telangana and interiors of Karnataka, which received very light showers (1 mm to 5 mm on an average) in the last 48 hours, have seen an increase in rain since yesterday.
A continuous flow of moisture laden winds from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, as well as a weather feature called the discontinuity of winds, from Tamil Nadu to Maharashtra, has been responsible for rainy weather in South India and Maharashtra in the last 24 hours.
Here’s a look at some of the rain figures from yesterday. Akola - 3 mm of rain, Gadag – 22.6 mm, Solapur – 21 mm, Aurangabad – 2 mm , Nashik – 0.5 mm, Bijapur – 0.6 mm, Belgaum – 0. 6 mm, Hyderabad – traces of rain, Ramagundum – 27 mm and Goa – traces of rain.
Other than Maharashtra and Telangana, adjoining regions of Chhattisgarh and Odisha also witnessed rain, with Jagdalpur ( 7 mm) and Bhuvaneshwar (0.2) recording some rain.
“Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers, cloudy weather and possibilities of hail are expected to continue in Maharashtra and north Telangana till late afternoon of 12thMarch. However, post 12thMarch, these parts will observe a lull. The Weather will be dry and temperatures may rise in the absence of rain”, says G.P Sharma of Skymet’s Meteorological Division.
Parts of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra have already recorded around 40 mm of rain so far in the month of March.
