Several parts of the Delhi-NCR region experienced waterlogging and traffic congestion due to heavy rainfall on September 13.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an "orange" alert saying heavy rains are likely to persist through the weekend. The weather department has advised residents to "be prepared" for severe weather.
The weather service has issued a warning regarding potential delays to air, road, and train travel, as well as power outages.
The IMD said in a bulletin, "Heavy rain at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh and Delhi. Thunderstorms/Lightning at isolated places throughout northwest India except Haryana."
Central and southern parts of Delhi experienced rainfall during this time. According to the meteorological department, most of Delhi is likely to experience light to moderate rainfall in the coming hours.
Late-night showers lashed parts of the national capital on Thursday, causing waterlogging and heavy traffic jams across many areas.
The meteorological department predicts that Delhi's maximum temperature on Friday will be around 28 degrees Celsius, which is six degrees colder than the seasonal average.
Delhi Police on September 13 said that there is waterlogging in some areas of the national capital and asked citizens to stay away from those areas.
According to the advisory, waterlogging at GGR PDR is causing traffic to be disrupted on NH-48 in the carriageway from Dhaula Kuan towards Mahipalpur. It also stated that the overflow of sewage water at Paras Chowk is causing traffic to be affected on Lala Lajpat Rai Marg in the carriageway from Kalkaji towards Defence Colony.
During the next 24 hours, a depression that is near Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh—roughly 40 km to the west-southwest of the city and 70 km to the west-northwest of Hardoi—is predicted to continue moving northeast. The IMD predicts that this system will provide a break from the ongoing rains over Delhi-NCR in the upcoming days.
In addition to Delhi, states such as Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh are expected to receive rainfall over the next two to three days. Uttarakhand is likely to receive moderate to heavy showers between September 13 and 14, with isolated areas likely to witness extremely heavy rainfall.
