A restaurant in Japan, named Indian Spice Factory, recently gained widespread attention for its commitment to serving authentic Indian food and showcasing the richness of Indian culture. The eatery is run by a couple, Nakayama-san and Sachiko-san, who have channelled their admiration for India into a dining experience that blends cuisine, tradition and hospitality.

The restaurant’s menu featured a variety of regional dishes, including phirni and murukku, as well as a selection of Bengali and South Indian meals. Diners were served on banana leaves in the style of traditional South Indian feasts, while the interiors were decorated with Indian musical instruments and artefacts. Sachiko was also seen wearing sarees as she attended to guests, adding to the cultural atmosphere.

The story of the restaurant drew attention after Instagram user Sonam Midha posted a video of her visit. In her caption, she remarked, “The love they had for India and Indian culture was unmatched. The whole experience was so touching and my heart was filled with love. It was truly an honour to meet Sachiko-san and Nakayama-san!”


In the comments section, the couple explained that their passion for Kolkata and Bengali food had been shaped by their own experiences in India. Nakayama, who previously worked in the restaurant industry in Kolkata and Delhi, wrote, “We are happy just to be able to tell as many Japanese people as possible about Kolkata/Bengali cuisine, which I myself was normally familiar with when I lived in India.”

The post resonated strongly with social media users, many of whom were moved by the couple’s dedication. One commenter wrote, “So heartwarming to see how people from different parts of the world get along.” Another remarked, “I wish I knew about this when I went to Japan! It’s so wonderful to have Bengali cuisine breaking barriers of distance and nations. So wonderful.”
