Indian cooking cannot be imagined without a parantha and there is no denying that. It is something that is relished by both children and adults and can be had at any point during the day. While ghee and butter are used to cook paranthas usually, a dhaba in Chandigarh was seen using “diesel”. A video of the same has gone viral and sparked concern among social media users.
The video, which was originally shared on Instagram, made its way on X as well. It began with a man named Bablu, a chef at Bablu Vaishno Dhaba rolling out dough in the shape of a parantha and stuffing it with potato mixture. He then laid out the huge parantha on a hot tawa and then started pouring an outrageous amount of oil over it, calling it “diesel”. Bablu also said that the parantha will be served with curd and butter.
"No wonder India is the cancer capital of the world," an oncology resident wrote while sharing the video on X.

Needless to say, the clip garnered a lot of attention and sparked major health concerns among social media users. Some people even called it "cancer parantha".
"At least he wore a cap on his head so there’s no hair in the cancer paratha," one user wrote. Another user commented, "He will be buying Ferrari soon & his customer will be selling their house & cars soon to fund the treatment of cancer."
"Aren’t there any kind of Food Safety Regulations for street foods in India?" a user questioned.
Several netizens were in disbelief over the fact and said it was probably used oil but still unhealthy.
"I don't think it's diesel or petrol, but whatever it is, it's definitely not fit for human consumption," a fourth user remarked.
Another person added, "This is 100+ times reused cooking oil. Still super unhealthy."
Meanwhile, the eatery soon came under fire and social media users started tagging The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) while retweeting the video.
Addressing the backlash, the owner of the dhabha, Channi Singh, quashed claims of any "diesel parantha" being served at the eatery. "We neither make any such thing as 'diesel paratha' nor serve any such thing to customers. A blogger had made that video just for fun. It is common sense that nobody would consume a paratha prepared in diesel nor is it cooked like that. I didn't know that the video was going viral, I came to know only yesterday," Singh told ANI.

"The blogger in question has deleted it and apologised to the people. We use only edible oil. We provide hygienic food to people here. We also supply langar from here. We don't play with people's lives," he added.
