Union Minister for Railways, Communications, and Electronics & Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, shared his positive experience of using India’s Swadeshi navigation app, Mappls, developed by MapmyIndia, after personally testing it in his vehicle.
In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), the minister said he had interacted with the Mappls team and tried out the application during his car journey. “I met with the MAPLS team today. They told me that all the Indian OEMs, car OEMs, are pre-installed inside. Let's see how good it is,” Vaishnaw stated in the video.
The minister later praised the app’s features, describing what stood out during his trial. “Wherever there is an overbridge and an underpass, there is a three-dimensional junction view,” he observed, noting its visual clarity and accuracy. Vaishnaw also pointed out the app’s voice-guided navigation and real-time traffic information among its key highlights.
Sharing his overall impression, the minister wrote on X, “Swadeshi ‘Mappls’ by MapmyIndia. Good features… must try!”
The application, available for free, can be downloaded from mappls.com, Google Play Store, or the Apple App Store.
Mappls is a digital mapping and navigation platform built by MapmyIndia, in partnership with the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). The app serves as a homegrown, privacy-focused, and hyperlocal alternative to international mapping services such as Google Maps and Apple Maps.
Developed under the Atmanirbhar Bharat and Swadeshi initiatives, the application aims to provide users with accurate navigation data while prioritising data security and localisation.
