To Kill a Tiger, an award-winning documentary that has also been nominated for the Academy Awards, will premiere on Netflix on March 10, the same day it competes at the Oscars for Best Documentary Feature.

Directed by Nisha Pahuja, the documentary centres on a family in Jharkhand who are campaigning for justice after their teenage daughter was brutally raped.

Pahuja, who began work on To Kill a Tiger almost a decade ago, told Deadline that it’s been a "long, fascinating 9-year journey". "To be here at this juncture–to announce we’re releasing globally on Netflix on March 10th, Oscar Sunday, we simply couldn’t have asked for anything better,” Pahuja said in a statement.

“I’m filled with gratitude for all the partners along the way–our co-producer the National Film Board of Canada, our Canadian Broadcasters TVO and the Knowledge Network, and our supporters Telefilm Canada and the Rogers Group of Funds. We’d not be here without them or without the support of an extraordinary group of executive producers. All of us who have made this film could not be happier than to be showcasing this epic labor of love and the story of Ranjit and his family on Netflix.”

The "extraordinary group of executive producers" Pahuja thanked include actors Dev Patel, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Mindy Kaling, Canadian poet Rupi Kaur, and surgeon and bestselling author Dr. Atul Gawande.

Priyanka Chopra said that she was moved by this film when she first saw it in Toronto in 2022. “I’m so proud to join the incredible team of the Academy Award-nominated documentary To Kill A Tiger, and to announce that Netflix has acquired the global distribution rights to this powerful feature directed by Nisha Pahuja," she said in February.

"When I first watched this film in 2022, I was immediately captivated by its poignant narrative, depicting a father’s valiant struggle within the judicial system to secure justice for his daughter. This project serves as a testament to the boundless love and unyielding determination of a devoted father for his cherished daughter.”
