A 44-year-old man in Thailand died after reportedly consuming nothing but beer for an entire month, following an emotional breakdown caused by his divorce. The man, identified as Thaweesak Namwongsa, was found unconscious in his bedroom by his teenage son and later pronounced dead by emergency services.

The incident took place in the Ban Chang district of Rayong province. According to police reports and eyewitness accounts, Namwongsa had refused to eat any food after his divorce was finalised. Instead, he consumed only beer for several weeks, despite his 16-year-old son's repeated efforts to feed him hot meals every day.

His son, whose name was not disclosed, told authorities, “I cooked meals for myself daily and tried to get my father to eat with me. But he just wouldn’t eat. He kept drinking beer and nothing else.”

On the day of the incident, the boy returned from school to find his father unconscious and suffering a seizure. He immediately called for emergency assistance. The Siam Rayong Foundation confirmed that they had received a distress call from a residence in the district but said Namwongsa had already passed away by the time they arrived.

Paramedics were reportedly shocked by the scene inside the small bedroom. Over 100 empty beer bottles were found strewn across the floor, leaving barely any room to walk. A narrow path had been cleared among the litter to allow Namwongsa to move around.

Photographs taken at the scene revealed that beer bottles had occupied nearly every inch of the floor. “There were bottles everywhere — on the floor, by the bed, even in the corners,” said one emergency responder. “It was hard to step inside.”

Police noted that Namwongsa appeared to have become severely depressed after his divorce, which likely triggered his refusal to eat and reliance on alcohol. While the precise cause of death has not yet been confirmed, authorities suspect excessive alcohol consumption played a critical role. An autopsy is scheduled to determine the exact cause.
