Christopher Nolan won the Best Director award for "Oppenheimer" at the 96th Academy Awards held at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, United States. This is the first, long-awaited Oscar for Nolan, who has been nominated eight times before.
Nolan, 53, clinched the Oscar after beating competition from Justine Triet for "Anatomy of a Fall" and Bradley Cooper for "Maestro," among others.
The British-American filmmaker - an obsessively punctual, tea-swilling perfectionist, who is known for combining inventive, intellectual playfulness with an emphasis on realism - was named best director at the Academy Awards on Sunday for his biopic "Oppenheimer".
"Oppenheimer" dominated the Oscars this year, having been nominated in 13 categories and winning seven awards.

“To the Academy — movies are just a little bit over 100 years old. We don’t know where this incredible journey is going from here. But to know that you think I’m a meaningful part of it means the world to me," Nolan said after winning the Oscar on Sunday.
"Oppenheimer" stars Cillian Murphy in the titular role and depicted the story of the theoretical physicist, who later became known as "the father of the atomic bomb", overcame numerous challenges to carve a name for himself in the history books. Murphy also won the Best Actor award at this year's Oscars.
