Narayana Murthy, co-founder of Infosys, showed a rarely seen side of himself at the Global Leadership Summit, by performing Elvis Presley’s classic song, “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” in a heartfelt gesture dedicated to his wife, Sudha Murty. The performance, captured on video, spread quickly across social media platforms, where many praised the romantic tribute.
Moneycontrol, in its Instagram post featuring the video, commented, “Infosys co-founder N. R. Narayana Murthy sings an Elvis classic at the Global Leadership Summit, dedicating it to his wife, Sudha Murthy!” The post gathered numerous reactions, with users expressing admiration for Murthy’s choice in music and adding comments like “He has good taste in music” and “Pookie mode on,” along with heart emojis.
The viral moment comes shortly after Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murty appeared on "The Kapil Sharma Show", where they shared memories from their 46-year marriage, beginning with their first meeting through a mutual friend. Reflecting on that first meeting, Murthy described his future wife as “a breath of fresh air” and praised her positivity, kindness, and conversational nature. “She has always been positive, kind, and very talkative,” he remarked, adding, “She wanted a good listener... So, she was happy, and I was happy.”
Sudha Murty also recalled the amusing story of Murthy’s first encounter with her father. “He arrived two hours late to meet my father for the first time as his taxi broke down,” she explained. During this memorable meeting, Murthy mentioned his ambition to enter politics and open an orphanage, a bold statement that didn’t quite align with her father’s expectations. As Sudha humorously noted, her father had hoped for a partner worthy of his daughter, who was then among the few women in engineering.
Despite their differing personalities, Sudha spoke about how they have managed to maintain their relationship by working through their differences. “This is where we have a difference of opinion. We are opposites, but opposites attract, so we find a compromise zone,” she added, highlighting how they bridge their contrasting views.
Narayana and Sudha Murty’s enduring relationship has become a source of inspiration for many, showing a rare blend of commitment, shared values, and mutual respect. Together, the couple raised two children: Akshata Murty, a businesswoman and wife of former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and Rohan Murty, an entrepreneur.
