Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly building a huge $100 million compound in Hawaii – complete with an underground bunker and its own food and energy sources. According to reports, the Facebook founder is already making preparations for doomsday.
As per an investigation by Wired of property records and interviews with contractors, the sprawling property called Koolau Ranch is already partially constructed and is shaping up to be one of the most expensive personal construction projects in modern history.
The construction of the 1,400-acre compound on Kauai island is shrouded in secrecy. Nobody working on this project is allowed to talk about what they are building. Several workers claimed that anyone who passes by compound security is bound by a strict non-disclosure agreement. And they are not just formalities. A number of workers have been removed from the project for posting about it on social media, Wired reported.
The complex consists of a dozen buildings with two central mansions that will be connected by a tunnel leading to a 5,000 square-foot underground shelter with an escape hatch accessible by a ladder, Wired mentioned citing building plans.
The media outlet further reported that the property will have at least 30 bedrooms and 30 bathrooms and will feature guest houses and group of 11 “disk-shaped” treehouses joined together by rope bridges. It will also have a living space and mechanical room and feature an apparent “blast-resistant” concrete and steel door.
As per construction documents, the exits and entrance doors throughout the property will have keypad locks and soundproofing. The library will have a secret door and cameras will be installed everywhere. The Meta CEO is preparing for some sort of apocalypse, New York Post reported.
The house is also built to be completely self-sufficient. The billionaire spent $170 million to purchase the land to build his ambitious house and it is his family home.
