An X user has shared the horrifying story of a man who complained of abdominal pain and nausea before vomiting up a live worm. The user – who goes by the name “Pharmacist Emeka” on the social media platform – posted a video of the worm that has garnered 5 million views online.
In his X post, the pharmacist said that a patient walked into his pharmacy complaining of abdominal pain and the urge to throw up. Asked when he had last dewormed himself, the man said it had been years. The pharmacist gave him deworming medicine, and here’s what followed. “He took the medication last night and woke up this morning with a strong urge to vomit. He went to the restroom to throw up and behold he vomited the live worm,” Pharmacist Emeka recounted as he shared a video of the worm and a picture of the medication prescribed.
Fair warning: This video is not for the faint-hearted.

The viral video shows a live worm, at least a couple of inches long, wriggling in a washbasin. It has been viewed over 5 million times on X. The comments section of the viral post, meanwhile, was filled with horrifying stories of other people throwing up worms.
In secondary school I once had this issue, my mom dewormed me and I went to school the next morning. In class I kept feeling something crawling out my neck to my throat. After drinking water twice, I had to dip my fingers in and pull it out. It was exactly this one in the vid — Naomi_the_brand (@naomichizaram) April 2, 2024

Pharmacist Emeka intended his post to be used as a cautionary tale. In the comments section, he explained that worms can be ingested into the body through contaminated food or water. Adults should ideally de-worm themselves two to three times a year.
There are several types of parasitic worms that can enter and live in the human body, like tapeworms, hookworms and roundworms.
