A man in the United Kingdom recently found a fried screw in a bag of chips that he had brought from food outlet KFC, a Metro report said.
25-year-old Callum Feehan brought a meal from a KFC outlet located on Canterbury Street in Gillingham and after returning home, opened the packet of chips. However, while eating the chips the man found something "rattling" in his mouth and when he took it out, it turned to be a fried screw.
"I bought the meal and came home. I’d literally put a handful of chips in my mouth and I could feel something rattling around in my mouth, and when I pulled it out it was a fried screw. I could have broken a tooth – thankfully I didn’t," Feehan said.
Feehan tried to get in touch with someone at KFC on X (formerly Twitter), but did not receive any response for two days. This forced him to threaten the outlet by speaking to the local environment authority to intervene into the issue, which then made KFC look into the matter.
"It was only when I threatened them with Environmental Health that they replied. They asked for a photo and asked where it was purchased and said they’d get back to me. That was Sunday, but there's been nothing since," he said.
Later, KFC sent a reply saying that the team was conducting an investigation into the incident and was in touch with the customer.
"We have strict processes in place to prevent any foreign objects from entering the food we serve. As a result, we take claims of this nature extremely seriously and can confirm our team is investigating as a matter of urgency. We are also in touch with Callum to keep him updated," a spokesperson said.
Feehan further said that he visits the KFC outlet in Gillingham once or twice every week and has faced minor issues in the past, as well.
