Another Indian student was brutally attacked by robbers in Chicago on Tuesday. A video featuring Syed Mazahir Ali, bleeding profusely and narrating his harrowing ordeal, is being widely circulating on social media, sparking concerns amid a string of attacks on Indian students abroad.

Ali, who hails from Hyderabad, went to Chicago to pursue a Master’s degree at the Indiana Wesleyan University. In the video that has spread like wildfire on the internet, Ali was seen bleeding from his nose and mouth and pleading for help. “There were four people, they beat me together,” he said. He added that he was on his way home after buying some food and the robbers also stole his phone. “Please help me, please help me.”

A CCTV footage also showed three masked men following Ali near his house at Campbell Avenue. When the student started to run, they chased him down and started assaulting him. According to Ali's wife, Syeda Ruquiya Fatima Rizvi, the attackers also had a gun.

Rizvi has also written to Foreign Minister S Jaishankar to ensure that her husband gets proper treatment for his injuries. She also requested him to make arrangements so that she can go to Chicago with their three minor children to be with her husband. According to reports, Ali is in a state of mental shock.

Following the assault, the Indian consulate in Chicago stated that it's in touch with the victim as well as his wife. "Consulate is in touch with Syed Mazahir Ali and his wife in India, Syeda Ruquiya Fatima Razvi and assured all possible assistance," the Indian Consulate in Chicago wrote in a post on X.

The attack on Ali comes after a slew of unfortunate incidents with Indian students in the US. Recently, Neel Acharya, a student at the Purdue University in the US was found dead on campus.

A few days before that, A 25-year-old Indian student who recently earned an MBA degree in the US was hammered to death by a homeless drug addict whom he had been helping for the past couple of days in Georgia.

The assailant identified as Julian Faulkner mercilessly struck Vivek Saini nearly 50 times on the head with a hammer.

In November last year, A 26-year-old Indian doctoral student died after being shot inside a car in the US state of Ohio. Aaditya Adlakhawas a fourth-year doctoral student in the molecular and developmental biology programme at the University of Cincinnati Medical School, according to a statement from the medical school, WXIX-TV reported.
