In an extraordinary incident, a student in a school in Gujarat got 212 marks out of 200 in a mathematics exam and 211 marks out of 200 in a Gujarati exam, an India Today report said.

Vanshiben Manishbhai, a Class 4 student, got her result sheet and was surprised to see the marks in both the subjects.

It was later revealed that a mistake had occurred during result compilation and a revised result sheet was issued to the girl, with the new scores reading  191 out of 200 in Gujarati and 190 out of 200 in Mathematics with no changes to other subjects.

The district education officials have ordered an investigation into the incident to find out the cause of the mistake and ensure such incidents are not repeated in future.

This is not the first instance when students have received an erroneous marks card. In 2023, many students in the Bachelor of Science program at the University of Mumbai scored as high as 115 marks out of 100.

The mistakes in the results were seen in the Group Theory subject, part of the fifth semester syllabus. The result sheet showed many students with over 100 marks.

"Some students were shown absent even though they appeared for the examination. It has also come to light that the university has made a mistake in the results," senior senate member Sanjay Viaral told Hindustan Times.

A university authority had said that a technical error had occurred in the software and revised results will be issued to rectify the mistake.
