The Indian Premier League (IPL) emerged as the most searched tournament of 2023, surpassing other global and continental events such as the World Cup and Asian Games.
The World Cup was the second most searched sporting event of 2023, followed by Asia Cup. The Women's Premier League, that was hosted for the first time in March, was the fourth most searched sports tournament of this year.
The Asian Games, where India won over 100 medals in total, was the fifth most searched sporting event of the year. The Indian Super League came in sixth position.
The Pakistan Super League and The Ashes series, which ended 2-2 for the second consecutive time in England, were found to be the seventh and eighth most searched sporting events of 2023. The Women's Cricket World Cup and SA T20 rounded off the top 10.
Among individual matches, seven matches involving India featured in top searched games. This included India's matches against Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka, England and Ireland in the top five most searched matches.
The matches against Afghanistan and Bangladesh were the seventh and eighth most searched matches. England versus Australia came in sixth place while the IPL match between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings and a contest between Pakistan and New Zealand finished in ninth and tenth places, respectively.
The Chennai Super Kings defeated the Gujarat Titans in a last-ball thriller in the 2023 Indian Premier League final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in May.
India and Australia squared off in eight ODI matches in 2023, including in the World Cup final where the Pat Cummins-led side emerged victorious.
