Recordings of Gitlab's Zoom meetings are a big hit on YouTube

Most working professionals find it hard to pay attention at their own office meetings, so it’s rather surprising to see them watching another company’s internal meetings on YouTube. Surprising – but only until you figure out the reason.

Gitlab is a DevOps platform that shares recordings of its internal meetings on YouTube. These Zoom meeting videos have thousands of views each on the video-sharing platform, because, it turns out, people have been using them to pretend like they are working.

X user Christian Keil brought this fact to wider public attention. “So GitLab posts their internal Zoom call recordings on YouTube, and some have HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of views... Because people use them to pretend like they're working,” he posted on X.

The comments section of these videos is comedy gold.

“I play this when I need my family to leave me alone - so helpful,” reads one comment on Gitlab’s weekly product marketing meeting video. The video in question has nearly 3 lakh views on YouTube.

“I’m not ready to tell my parents that I resigned my job, so I was telling them I’m working from home and play this every morning so they would stop bothering me. This is a lifesaver!” another said.

“This community of people ‘using a random meeting video to pretend to work to avoid others’ is the most I've ever felt seen. (Editor Note: I've watched this 30 times and I have no idea what Gitlab is.)” a third person quipped.
