Box office: Jawan enters 400 Crore Club, Gadar 2 chasing Pathaan's all-time record

Bollywood films are breaking records for highest grossing Hindi film in double-quick time. Could 2023 become the best year ever for Bollywood?

It's raining records and they aren't about Rs 100 crore, Rs 200 crore or Rs 300 crore anymore. The stakes are much bigger now, as box office conversations have now started centering around Rs 400 crore and Rs 500 crore films. Post pandemic, it all seemed gloomy before KGF: Chapter 2 showed the way last year and showed that big numbers can come all over again. It entered 400 Crore Club with ease and though there was a lull again after that with the occasional 100 Crore Club or 200 Crore Club film, the back-to-back blockbuster success of Pathaan, Gadar 2 and Jawan has enlivened the scene.

This can well be seen from the fact that Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan has now set the record for the fastest 400 Crore Club earner ever. It has managed to achieve this feat in a mere nine days, which has never happened before. Even Pathaan took 11 days to reach there and then Gadar 2 was just one day behind to cross the Rs 400 crore mark in India.

Jawan has moved ahead at an electrifying pace, with Rs 413 crore being collected in Indian theatres alone in a matter of just nine days (Jawan had made Rs 696.7 crore at the global box office as of September 15, 2023). This will set the tone for other big releases which will now strive to zoom past Rs 400 crore in ticket sales across India in under 10 days.

Of course, this has also been made possible by that massive Rs 45 crore coming in for the Telugu and Tamil versions of the Atlee directed film. Ticket sales for the Hindi version across India stand at Rs 367 crore - the Hindi version itself is set to enter the 400 Crore Club by tomorrow, which would mark 11 days of its run. This too would be a record since Pathaan (Hindi) took 12 days to reach there.

The next milestone is entry into the 500 Crore Club, and Jawan will likely accomplish that feat by the close of next weekend. That too would be the quickest ever, which means Jawan could have a plethora of records to its name. Yes, the records are meant to be broken and hopefully the blockbuster times will continue with Salman Khan's Tiger 3 and then Shah Rukh Khan's Dunki creating havoc at the box office. Once that happens, 2023 will in fact go down as simply the most successful year ever for Bollywood.

This can well be seen from the fact that the record for highest grossing films of all times would be broken at such a frantic pace one after another. While Pathaan had scored Rs 524.50 crore in the Hindi version, Gadar 2 is now already chasing that with over Rs 518 crore in its kitty and all set to surpass that mark. However, that record would be short-lived too as Jawan will eventually chase it down, hence making it a memorable year for Bollywood where one record after another was created and that too for the highest grossers ever.

Unbelievable!
