India on Thursday agreed to reschedule Foreign Secretary-level talks with Pakistan to the "near future", linking it to "credible" progress in the Pathankot terror attack probe.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup told a media conference that India expected an action that was "credible, comprehensive and brings to justice all known perpetrators of the Pathankot terror attack."

Swarup however dodged questions directly linking talks to detention of Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Maulana Masood Azhar who, according to India , masterminded the attack.

He also made it clear that New Delhi has no official information on the detention of Azhar.

"We will go by objective evidence we see on ground, not empty statements. So far what Pakistan has done we welcome", he said.

The MEA spokesperson said India looked forward to the proposed visit of a special investigations team ( SIT) from Pakistan adding that India was willing to share even more evidence.

The National Security Advisers of both countries, Ajit Doval and Naseer Khan Janjua, were in regular touch , he said.

India also welcomed Pakistan PMO's statement announcing action against those allegedly behind the Pathankot airbase attack on January 2.

"We note the apprehension of Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists. It is initial first positive step," Swarup said.

Reports from Islamabad said Azhar, his brother and "several individuals" belonging to his dreaded terror outfit JeM were detained and their offices sealed.

Foreign secretary-level talks between both countries were expected to be held on January 15, but were put on hold after India hinged it on Pakistan's action against those behind the Pathankot attack.
