Delhi pollution crisis: Drone camera footage captured from the Kalindi Kunj area paints a grim picture as a thick layer of haze blankets the sky.

Delhi has been battling toxic smog for days now.

Delhi is grappling with a severe air pollution crisis, as a thick haze of toxic smog continues to shroud the city for the several consecutive days now. The Air Quality Index (AQI) remained stubbornly in the 'severe' category till Monday with a slip down to ‘very poor’ category in several areas today.

Photographs and videos from different parts of the national capital region shows the severity of the situation. Drone camera footage captured from the Kalindi Kunj area on Monday paints a grim picture as a thick layer of haze blankets the sky. The video was shared by news agency ANI on X.

In a bid to combat this rapidly worsening crisis, the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) has sprung into action, initiating water sprinkling operations in hotspot areas across the national capital.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called for an emergency high-level meeting Monday to address the escalating air pollution crisis, that has prompted the return of odd-even rule for vehicles, school closures and halt on construction activities.

The toxic smog has raised concerns among medical professionals regarding the rising number of respiratory and eye ailments, particularly affecting children and the elderly.

The ban on BS3 petrol and BS4 diesel vehicles will continue, with exceptions for LNG and CNG trucks carrying essential commodities entering Delhi.

With the AQI hovering around 500 on several days, the quality of air that Delhi's residents and those in neighbouring cities are inhaling is equivalent to smoking 25-30 cigarettes a day. Health experts emphasize that the recommended AQI for any healthy individual should be less than 50.

Seasonal factors, including low temperatures, a lack of wind, and stubble burning in neighbouring states, have collectively contributed to the surge in air pollutants.

Delhi, along with Kolkata and Mumbai, is listed among the world's most polluted cities, according to data from Swiss Group IQAir.
