Government should maintain transparency in defence deals to remove "shortcomings", NCP general secretary Tariq Anwar said today. "Some shortcomings are noticed in Army deals. It cannot be ruled out. But it requires to be removed and the government must maintain transparency," Anwar told reporters here.

Referring to Army Chief V K Singh's revelations of the bribe offer, he said Defence Minister A K Antony had made a statement on the issue and the Centre was serious on the points raised by him.

The government, he said, was not ready for any compromise on the issue of national security and was "irrevocably" committed to remove the shortcomings. "A CBI inquiry has already been ordered into it. It will not be proper to speak about it till the report comes," Anwar added.
