Prez stresses upon promoting trade, investments

Expressing concern over euro zone and other global political crises, President Pratibha Patil today emphasised upon improving financial governance and promoting trade and investments.

Expressing concern over euro zone and other global political crises, President Pratibha Patil today emphasised upon improving financial governance and promoting trade and investments.

After welcoming the envoys of 12 countries including the US, the President also said the world is faced with the growing pressures on the earth's resources and issues related to environment protection and climate change. "In such a scenario, it is very important to work together and have institutions in which the voices of all, particularly those of developing countries, find expression," Patil said.

She said improved financial governance, employment generation, promoting trade and investments are essential. Patil said the global financial crises and developments in the euro zone along with political strife and violence have generated a plethora of political and economic issues.

The President also said India is willing to share her development experiences and her expertise with other countries in particular in the context of South-South Co-operation.

During the ceremony, Nancy J Powell, Ambassador of the United States of America, Ioannis E Raptakis, Ambassador of Greece, Larbi Reffouh, Ambassador of Morocco, Ali Illiassou, Ambassador of Niger, Aashna Wandani Radha Kanhai, Ambassador of Suriname, Waven Winslow William, High Commissioner of Seychelles, Susan Yoyo Sikaneta, High Commissioner of Zambia, and Feilim McLaughlin, Ambassador of Ireland among others presented their credentials to the President.

The other envoys included Linus von Castelmur, Ambassador of Switzerland, Maria Michael, High Commissioner of Cyprus, Alexandre Cece Loua, Ambassador of Guinea and Sanjaasuren Bayaraa, Ambassador of Mongolia, a Rashtrapati Bhavan release said. The credential presentation ceremony was attended by the senior members of the Missions, senior officials of the Ministry of External Affairs and Rashtrapati Bhavan, it added.
