Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 with fingerprint sensor unveiled

The Redmi Note 3's fingerprint sensor is claimed to unlock the phone in 0.3 seconds. The phone, which is engineered with a MediaTek octa-core processor, comes in two variants - 16 (with 2 GB of RAM) and 32 GB (with 3 GB of RAM).

Merely three months after introducing the Redmi Note 2, Xiaomi has now unveiled its successor. Named the Redmi Note 3, the new affordable phone comes with an improved battery, metal body, and a fingeprint scanner.

The Redmi Note 3's fingerprint sensor is claimed to unlock the phone in 0.3 seconds. The phone, which is engineered with a MediaTek octa-core processor, comes in two variants - 16 (with 2 GB of RAM) and 32 GB (with 3 GB of RAM).

The 16 GB model is priced at 899 RMB (roughly translates to Rs 9,400), and 32 GB at 1099 RMB (around Rs 11,500).Encased in a full metal body, the phone will be available gold, silver and dark grey colours. It has a 5.5-inch Full HD display and runs Android-based OS MIUI 7.

The Redmi Note 3 is packed with a 4000 mAh battery and is said to support fast charging, offering 50 per cent of power in 1 hour.

At its rear is a 13 megapixel rear camera with a two-tone flash, while the front has a 5 megapixel shooter.

The phone which is otherwise claimed to be "very thin" measures 8.65 mm at its thickest point.
