The two-day Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet (GIM) in Chennai concluded with investments worth Rs 6.64 lakh crore being announced, which included a significant chunk in the energy sector.
A total of 631 memorandum of understandings were signed, leading to the creation of 14.54 lakh direct employment opportunities and 26.91 lakh in total.
The event, held between January 7-8, saw the Tamil Nadu Semiconductor and Advanced Electronics Policy 2024, being launched by Chief Minister Thiru M.K. Stalin. During the two-day event, TANFUND portal was also launched, which is the startup funding platform of Tamil Nadu. The portal will connect Tamil Nadu-based startups with global funds to raise investment.

The largest pie came in from Tata Power Renewable Energy, which will expand its existing solar plant in Tirunelveli district with a total investment of Rs 70,000 crore, offering 3,000 jobs. Next big investment was announced by Sembcorp, with a proposed investment of Rs 36,238 crore. The company plans to set up green hydrogen plant in Thoothukudi district, which will lead to the creation of 1,511 jobs.
Adani Green Energy Limited signed an MoU worth Rs 24,500 crore, offering 4,000 jobs in Tiruvannamalai.
Leap Green Energy Pvt Ltd proposes to establish an integrated green hydrogen power storage plant in Thoothukudi district with total investment worth Rs 22,842 crore, creating 3,925 jobs. Of this, Leap Green Energy Private Limited will invest Rs 17,400 crore in Tiruvannamalai, leading to the creation of 3,325 jobs in the energy sector and Rs 5,442 crore in Tuticorin, to create 600 jobs.
Chennai Petrochemicals (CPCL) proposes an investment of Rs 17,000 crore in its petrochemical refinery and decarbonisation units in Nagapattinam district, creating 2,400 jobs.
Adani Connex will invest Rs 13,200 crore, creating 1,000 jobs.
Ambuja Cements will invest Rs 3,500 crore, creating 5,000 jobs, while L&T Innovation campus will invest a similar amount in Chennai, creating 40,000 jobs.
Saint Gobain India proposes to establish greenfield units in Kancheepuram district and expand existing units in Kancheepuram with a proposed investment of Rs 3,400 crore, creating 1,140 jobs.
Royal Enfield plans to invest Rs 3,000 crore and generate 2,000 jobs in Kanchipuram across Tamil Nadu for motorcycle manufacturing and other related activities.
Microsoft India plans to set up a state-of-art Data Centre in Chennai district with an investment of Rs 2,740 crore, creating 167 jobs.
Sify Technologies proposes to build a Data Centre in Chennai district with a proposed investment of Rs 2,500 crore, and creating over 300 high-end jobs.
Salcomp Manufacturing India will invest Rs 2,271 crore in Kancheepuram, which will create 15,000 job opportunities.
Stellantis Group plans to invest Rs 2,000 crore in internal combustion engine & electric vehicle car manufacturing in Tiruvallur district.
Ramkrishna Titagarh Rail Wheels plans to set up a facility in Tiruvallur with proposed investment of Rs 1,850 crore, creating 1,400 jobs.
Adani Total Gas & CNG will invest Rs 1,568 crore, which will lead to the creation of 300 jobs.
TKG Taekwang plans to set up a greenfield unit in Tamil Nadu to manufacture non-leather footwear with a proposed investment of Rs 1,250 crore, creating 9,000 jobs.
Kauvery Hospitals proposes to expand its healthcare facilities in Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs 1,200 crore, creating 7,500 jobs. Meanwhile, Hinduja Group plans to expand its automobile manufacturing business in the state with a proposed investment of Rs 1,200 crore, creating 500 jobs.
Shell India Markets proposed to invest in renewable energy projects with an investment of Rs 1,070 crore, which will lead to the creation of massive 50,000 jobs.
Mahindra Origins will invest Rs 1,000 crore in Tiruvallur. Tata Chemicals plans to build a speciality chemicals manufacturing unit in Ramanathapuram district with a proposed investment of Rs 10,00 crore, creating employment for 500 people.
Jindal Defence will set up 3,500 MT aerospace components manufacturing facility in Tiruchirappalli with an investment of Rs 1,000 crore, creating 800 jobs.
ENES Textile Mills, the manufacturing arm of Ramraj Cotton, plans to set up textile units across multiple locations in the state with a proposed investment of Rs 1,000 crores, creating 13,000 jobs.
Shahi Exports plans to set up textile units across multiple locations in the state with a proposed investment of Rs 1,000 crore, creating 22,000 jobs.
