Reliance JioMart surpasses 1 million users on the Google Play Store

Now, the second most popular shopping app on Apple's App Store.

JioMart, Reliance Retail’s beta online consumer grocery platform recently went live on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. A few days since its launch, the app has already crossed 10 lakh downloads on the Play Store. With the launch of the app, JioMart now offers seamless accessibility to a range of consumers.

JioMart is one of the most popular apps in the Play Store’s ‘shopping’ category, third only behind Amazon and Flipkart. The app is also the second most popular app in the ‘shopping’ category on Apple’s app store. JioMart was launched with an aim to compete with Amazon and Flipkart, the companies that have dominated India’s e-retail space.

The JioMart mobile app has come little over a week after the Reliance AGM 2020. It was initially released as a website, but now users can download the app for easy accessibility on smartphones. The soaring popularity in recent days could be attributed to the fact that smartphones are more accessible to a majority of Indian as well as the convenience of using an app over a website.

Reliance has also made JioMart delivery services available in over 200 locations across India. At the Reliance AGM, Chairman Mukesh Ambani said that JioMart would collaborate with WhatsApp to simplify the buying process for consumers. He also mentioned that the two platforms would work with consumers and local Kirana stores to help them realise new opportunities.

Jio Mart currently offers groceries and other essentials with plans to introduce new categories, including electronics and fashion. During the AGM, Ambani also said that JioMart was taking over 2.5 lakh daily orders, a number which has undoubtedly risen in the past couple of days.
