World Book and Copyright Day 2024: The origins of World Book Day can be traced back to Catalonia, Spain, where it was first celebrated on April 23, 1926, in honour of Miguel de Cervantes, William Shakespeare, and Garcilaso de la Vega, all of whom died on that date. In 1995, UNESCO officially designated April 23 as World Book Day during its General Conference held in Paris.
World Book Day 2022: UNESCO, in its message to mark the day, said that there is even greater need to cherish books --symbols of hope -- in uncertain times.
