Pope Leo XIV was officially installed on Sunday, May 25, at the Basilica of Saint John Lateran, the cathedral of the Diocese of Rome. Elected on May 8, he assumed his role as bishop of Rome and symbolically took possession of the throne of Saint Peter. In his inaugural address, he quoted Saint Augustine, saying, “Christian with you and bishop for you,” reflecting his Augustinian roots. Later, he visited the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, where he prayed at the tomb of his predecessor, Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21 and chose to be buried there rather than in Saint Peter’s Basilica. He added that brigades were deployed in five hotspots. "It will probably continue during the night," Munoz said in a video posted on his X account. The Karnataka High Court has dismissed Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's petition challenging Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot's decision to sanction his prosecution in the MUDA land case. Justice M. Nagaprasanna’s bench ruled that the Governor acted independently and had thoroughly considered the matter, finding no fault in his decision. The case centres on allegations that Siddaramaiah’s wife benefited from a questionable land exchange in Mysuru. The court stated that the allegations warranted investigation, as Siddaramaiah’s family was the beneficiary. The ruling is expected to increase pressure on Siddaramaiah and bolster the Opposition BJP’s calls for his resignation.
