The 'Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (PMGKP): Insurance Scheme for Health Care Workers Fighting COVID-19' was launched on March 30, 2020 to provide comprehensive personal accident cover of Rs 50 lakh to 22.12 lakh health care providers.
Under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Scheme, Rs 1.70 lakh crore worth cash transfers were supposed to be made to the poor, women, and senior citizens.
On March 26, the government had announced the Rs 1.70 lakh crore relief package to help the vulnerable sections of the society deal with the COVID-19 crisis. The package entails free food grains and cash payment to women, elderly, farmers and others.
The ministry said more than 33 crore poor people received financial assistance of Rs 31,235 crore till April 22 under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (PMGKP).
As part of the Rs 1.70 lakh crore relief package, the government announced free foodgrains and cash doles to women and poor senior citizens and farmers to mitigate the hardships during the lockdown.
