The small finance bank is targeting to reduce its gross non-performing asset numbers to pre-pandemic levels and reduce the interest rate gap with major banks
After the Union Budget 2023-24 announcement and the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) monetary policy committee (MPC) meeting on February 8, 2023, banks are luring more customers with high rates. Equitas Small Finance Bank's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (MD & CEO) PN Vasudevan sees fierce competition among small finance banks (SFB) and other big banks. He speaks to Moneycontrol exclusively on his bank's universal license status, outlook for FY24, financial status after the reverse merger and more.
Vasudevan's current term as MD & CEO expires on July 22, 2023. The Board has decided to extend the tenure for another three years.
When asked whether the successor will be from within the bank or outside, he said the race is open for anyone.
In an interview to CNBC-TV18, PN Vasudevan, MD of Equitas Holdings spoke about the results and his outlook for the company.
Speaking to CNBC-TV18 PN Vasudevan, MD of Equitas, said that it became a bank recently and it hasn‘t seen any impact in terms of collections owing to the demonetisation drive.
"Over the last ten years, we have established a huge amount of capability to manage business at microfinance, used commercial vehicle (CV) finance or micro and small enterprise (MSE) finance segment. It is almost 70-80 percent of our clients. We are the only lender to them", PN Vasudevan, MD of Equitas Holdings told CNBC-TV18.
Out of the 580 lending out branches currently, they expect to convert 412 into banking branches in the next 12 months, said PN Vasudevan, MD, Equitas Holdings.
Riding on the back of a good first-quarter performance, N Vasudevan, Managing Director of Equitas Holdings, says there is large unmet demand in the microfinance space which can be capitalised upon going ahead.
The company has applied for final license recently and is working to get its infrastructure in place, says PN Vasudevan, MD of Equitas Holdings.
