UPI was linked to its equivalent network in Singapore called PayNow in order to enable cross-border remittances between the two countries on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong launch the cross-border connectivity between the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) of India and PayNow of Singapore. The linkage of these two payment systems would enable residents of both countries in faster and cost-efficient transfer of cross-border remittances.
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, on February 13, said that India has signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with 13 countries that want to adopt the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for digital payments.
There will be interoperability of the two digital payment networks, allowing seamless remittances between the two countries at a highly competitive rate.
