Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd is a public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Railways. Established in 1999, it was wholly owned by the Government of India through the Indian Railways. But since 2019, IRCTC has been listed on the National Stock Exchange, with the government holding majority ownership while the rest is publicly traded. The services provided by IRCTC for the Indian Railways include online ticketing, catering and tourism. IRCTC has made the online booking of train tickets (e-tickets) rather simple through its website Passengers can easily check their PNR and live train status as well. The Tatkal booking system of IRCTC allows passengers to book tickets under short notice and with services like Rolling Deposit Scheme, one can reserve their seat against an advance amount kept with the corporation. Other than online ticketing, IRCTC also looks into catering and tourism services. It has exclusive rights of onboard catering in all trains operated by the Indian Railways. It has introduced e-catering services as well that allows passengers to order food online, which gets delivered to their seats.
