SSC scam: Former WB Education Minister Partha Chatterjee's arrest followed after Rs 21 crore in cash and jewellery worth more than Rs 1 crore were recovered from the Kolkata residence of his close aide Arpita Mukherjee.
He was approached by the media outside the ESI hospital at Joka in the city where he was taken on Wednesday morning along with his associate Arpita Mukherjee for a regular medical check up before being interrogated by the ED, which is probing the money trail in the scam that has rocked the state.
Mukherjee was arrested by the ED on Saturday after grilling her for several hours at her residence in a posh apartment block in south Kolkata, where crores of rupees in cash and other valuables were allegedly recovered by sleuths of the central agency.
Partha Chatterjee, who was the state education minister when the scam took place, was arrested after around 26 hours of grilling in connection with the probe.
