To a question on whether the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) had received requests for opting out of the Aadhaar scheme, the minister gave an affirmative reply.
In a veiled attack on Sibal who was in the forefront of the move by opposition MPs to impeach the Chief Justice of India, senior advocate Rakesh Dwivedi, representing Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), said the Congress leader was part of the Empowered Group of Minister (EGoM) that had dealt with the Aadhaar scheme.
They, however, said the verdict's impact on Aadhaar scheme can be assessed once the full judgement and reasons given by the court are examined.
According to the Budget document, the government has incurred an expenditure Rs 1,617.73 crore as per the revised estimates for the current fiscal. However, the Budget estimates of expenditure on the project being implemented by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) was Rs 2,039.64 crore for the current fiscal.
Finance minister P Chidambaram, in an interview to the national broadcaster, said that the government will focus on projects where the implementation of DBT is relatively easier.
