Living in a technology-driven era provides significant opportunities to ensure corruption-free governance, says Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"In this technology-driven era, where technology is disruptive, transformative, and easily accessible, there is immense potential for maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption," stated PM Modi in an exclusive interview with News 18.
When asked about how he would uphold the resolve of 'Na Khaunga, Na Khaane Dunga' (I will not take bribes, nor will I allow others to do so) in a potential third term, the Prime Minister replied," 'Na Khaata Hun, Na Khaane Deta Hun' (I neither indulge in corruption, nor allow others to do so) will always be there, but now I am trying to take it forward. Jisne khaaya hai usse nikalunga, aur jiska gaya hai usko khilaunga (I will recover from those who stole and will return it to those they stole from)."
Further commenting on the lack of a strong Opposition, he noted, "In a democracy, a robust opposition is crucial to keep the government accountable and vigilant. Such an opposition serves as a constant check, keeping the government on its toes. There is no shortage of talent in our country, and deserving individuals must be given the opportunity to contribute".
"I believe that from 2014 to 2024, there should have been strong opposition. If there is one thing missing in my tenure, it is the presence of a formidable opposition", also stated the Prime Minister.
PM Modi also expressed disappointment over the lack of positive contributions from the Congress during his tenure. He noted that despite their decades-long governance experience, he did not receive significant assistance or advice from them.
While he acknowledged benefiting from the wisdom and experience of leaders like former President Pranab Mukherjee until his tenure, PM Modi highlighted that he primarily relied on his party colleagues and his own experience as the Chief Minister of Gujarat for guidance and support.
"Despite their decades-long governance, I thought to seek advice from them as they were on their way out, hoping for assistance. Until Pranab Mukherjee's tenure, I derived benefits from his shared experiences. However, I received no support from the opposition", said the PM.
"My insights mainly stemmed from my party colleagues and my experiences as Gujarat's Chief Minister," he further noted.
During his campaigning for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi has consistently highlighted allegations of corruption against parties within the INDIA bloc, such as the Congress and the Trinamool Congress.
"Corruption is a pervasive trait among INDIA bloc parties, they have turned it into a "full-time business," alleges PM Modi. "Whether it's the Congress, the Left, or any other party within the INDIA bloc, they all share corruption as a common characteristic," asserted the Prime Minister.
PM Modi accused all parties within the INDIA bloc, including the Congress, the Left, and others, of adopting corruption as their common characteristic.
He emphasised that efforts to combat corruption will persist, undeterred by threats and abuses. "Don't you believe that those involved in corruption should be imprisoned? Despite facing threats and abuse from corrupt individuals, I remain resolute and undeterred. The pursuit of justice against every corrupt individual will persist", said the Prime Minister.
