BMW Motorrad is set to unleash its latest masterpiece - the M 1000 XR, on the world of high-performance motorcycles. This marks the third addition to BMW's M series, following the M 1000 RR and M 1000 R.

With its combination of powerful engineering, advanced technology, and striking design, the M 1000 XR promises to set a new standard in sport touring. The bike has been teased again, hinting at a possible launch very soon.

As far as design goes, the BMW M 1000 XR exudes a sense of sportiness and aggression that few others in the ADV segment can manage. It features an updated design with M winglets, designed to enhance high-speed stability, and split LED headlights with integrated daytime running lights. Gone are the days of BMW’s signature asymmetry, but this doesn’t make the M 1000 XR any less striking. The beak of the ADV protrudes just a bit under the split headlamp and like any ADV, the M 1000 XR rides tall. The bike is available in two striking paint schemes—Light White and Blackstorm Metallic.

Now, the bike is meant to be road-biased and is closer in function to a sport touring bike than a full-blown ADV. This is perhaps one of the reasons the M gets a set of 17-inch alloy rims at both ends rather than the taller set-up. Tyres, too, are configured for road use and aren’t dual-purpose.

The M 1000 XR’s heart is a 999cc inline four-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. This churns out a remarkable 201 hp—a staggering 31 horsepower more than the S 1000 XR it is based on. This powerhouse of an engine also delivers 112 Nm of peak torque at 11,000rpm, revving to the 14,600rpm red line. BMW has fine-tuned the gear ratios and equipped it with a larger 47-tooth sprocket for better acceleration. The M 1000 XR can sprint from 0 to 100kmph in a mere 3.2 seconds and reach 200 km/h in just 7.4 seconds, topping out at 280 km/h. Suspension comprises fully adjustable 45mm upside-down front forks and a monoshock at the rear. The braking system features dual 320mm discs at the front and a single 265mm disc at the rear.

The M 1000 XR also offers an impressive array of features and specifications. It weighs 223kg dry, and opting for the M Competition package shaves off 3kg. The bike's seat height is 850 mm, but with the M Competition package, it can be adjusted to either 820mm or 870mm.

The technological wizardry on the M 1000 XR is equally impressive. It comes equipped with a titanium silencer featuring a carbon fibre cap. The bike features five riding modes—Rain, Road, Dynamic, Race and Race Pro 1-3, allowing users to tailor their riding experience to the conditions. Additionally, it includes a bidirectional quickshifter, new-gen traction control, tyre pressure monitoring system, wheelie control, heated grips, adaptive headlights, shift assistant pro, pit lane limiter, launch control, ABS, slide control, USB charging socket, automatic hill-start control and dynamic brake control. The BMW M 1000 XR has been launched in the US with an MSRP of $29,995 (approximately Rs 25 lakh at the time of writing). The Indian market on the other hand can expect a significantly higher number thanks to the added import levies and other taxes. For reference, the M 1000 RR that is on sale right now is priced at around Rs 49 lakh. Expect the M 1000 XR to be placed in a similar price range.
