How BJP elects its national president? Some interesting facts about Sangathan Parv

This Electoral College played a decisive role in the election of the BJP's next national president, a process that has already drawn nationwide attention.

Under Sangathan Parv 2024, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s constitutionally mandated, transparent and democratic organisational election process has steadily moved forward. From booth level to the national level, this campaign to strengthen the organisation has reached an end. And the BJP now has a new president, its youngest-ever chief, Nitin Nabin.

Unlike elections conducted by the Election Commission, the BJP’s national president is chosen entirely through an internal organisational process.

Booth presidents and booth committees

Elections start from ground level. Organisational elections begin at the booth or local level and move upward. At the grassroots, elections have been completed for 788,197 booth presidents out of a total of 1,070,462 booths. Alongside this, 8,947,845 booth committee members have been constituted, marking 74 percent completion at this level.

Mandal presidents

With the objective of promoting young leadership, an eligibility criterion of below 45 years of age was set for the post of Mandal presidents. Out of 17,743 mandals, the election for 16,469 have been completed, reflecting 93% completion.

District presidents

At the district level, out of a total of 1,036 districts, the election of presidents has been completed in 978 districts, reflecting 94% completion.

State level process

The process has also advanced significantly at the state level. One state council member was elected from each Assembly constituency and one from a group of two constituencies. Out of the stipulated 6,384 state council members, the election of 4,932 members has been completed — amounting to 80% completion. Organisational elections have been completed in 30 out of 37 organisational states, reflecting 81% completion.

National council members

At the nation level, elections for 741 national council members out of 815 have been concluded, marking 92 percent completion.

Constitution of the Electoral College

In accordance with the party Constitution, the Electoral College has been constituted. It includes 35 nominated members from the Parliamentary Party, 741 elected National Council members, and 4,932 elected State Council members. Thus, the total strength of the Electoral College stands at 5,708.
