Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has emerged as one of NDA’s most effective campaigner in Bihar, not only drawing massive crowds but also helping reshape the election narrative through sharp messaging that put the opposition on the defensive.

His rallies, more than thirty across the state, highlighted governance, development and cultural identity — but it was his strategic political punchline like 'jungle raj’ that ended up dominating the campaign.

Yogi addressed 31 rallies and public meetings in Bihar, significantly more than several national-level campaigners. The results reflected the impact: of the 31 NDA candidates he backed, 27 won, giving him an exceptional strike rate of over 87 percent.

Political analyst Ajay Kumar said the numbers speak for themselves. “Yogi is not just a campaigner, he is a vote-multiplier. His strike rate in Bihar is extraordinary and far ahead of any other opposition or NDA leader. It clearly shows the depth of his mass appeal.”

Just before the first phase of polling, Yogi introduced a controversial jibe, referring to the three prominent leaders of the Mahagathbandhan as “Appu, Tappu and Pappu”, likening them to “three monkeys” who, according to him, neither spoke on issues of development nor offered solutions for governance. The line triggered immediate uproar, and as expected, the controversy became the central talking point of the Bihar campaign.

The opposition, from Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav to senior Congress figures, found itself compelled to respond. Congress leaders accused Yogi of insulting Lord Hanuman by invoking the “monkey” analogy. Akhilesh counterattacked with his own list of satirical names for BJP leaders, turning the election trail into a charged war of words.

Political analyst Kumar said the shift was unmistakable. “Yogi did not just launch a jibe; he launched a political trap. The Mahagathbandhan walked straight into it. Instead of attacking the NDA on unemployment or governance, they spent days responding to the monkey controversy. Strategically, it was a masterstroke.”

As the controversy ballooned, the opposition’s planned messaging — from highlighting Nitish Kumar government’s alleged failures to promoting its own employment promises — faded from the spotlight. The debate in the media, on news channels and across social platforms revolved almost entirely around Yogi’s remark.

“The Mahagathbandhan lost control of the narrative,” noted political commentator Meera Singh. “Their entire communication plan for phase one collapsed. They shifted from issue-based attacks to personality-driven rebuttals. Meanwhile, the NDA stayed on its core themes of law and order, welfare schemes and strong leadership.”

Yogi’s trademark “bulldozer” governance model and law-and-order narrative with words like jungle raj continued to draw thunderous applause at rallies. His appeals rooted in religious identity — invoking “Jai Shri Ram” and offering respect to Chhath Maiyya — strengthened the NDA’s emotional connect in rural Bihar. His pitch for a “double engine government” and welfare-driven development added further heft.

Analyst Anil Mishra said Yogi’s impact went beyond speeches. “His mass appeal is translating into political capital. Wherever he campaigned, the NDA saw a sharp rise in vote share. Even marginal seats shifted in the alliance’s favour.”

The monkey controversy, combined with Yogi’s consistent messaging, changed the direction of the campaign. The opposition fought hard to counter his remarks, but the shift ensured that the NDA dictated the discourse heading into the first phase of voting.

“There is no doubt that Yogi has emerged as one of the most influential campaigners in Indian politics,” said Ajay Kumar. “If he could alter the narrative in Bihar so decisively, there is every possibility he may deploy similar tactics in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.”
