A 45-year-old man was stabbed to death in Gujarat’s Rajkot on the day of Makar Sankranti, allegedly by his former partner and her boyfriend, police said. The victim has been identified as Sawan Goswami.
According to the police, Goswami sustained eight stab wounds and was rushed to the Civil Hospital after authorities received information about the attack. Doctors, however, declared him dead on arrival.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Goswami had been in a relationship with a woman named Varsha for around four months. The relationship reportedly ended after repeated disputes, following which Varsha began living with another man. Police said Goswami was deeply upset by the breakup and frequently argued with her. A day before the murder, an altercation between the two had escalated to the extent that a police complaint was lodged.
On the day of the incident, Goswami allegedly went to Varsha’s residence, where another argument broke out. Police said the confrontation turned violent, and Varsha, along with her boyfriend, attacked Goswami with a knife, stabbing him multiple times.
Explaining the sequence of events, a senior police officer told India Today, "The murder occurred due to multiple disputes between the victim and the accused. The victim, Sawan, was distressed as his ex-partner started living with another person, and he often used to have altercations. On the day of the murder, their fallout escalated to a level where the woman and her boyfriend stabbed him eight times, which caused his death. Police have arrested Varsha and her new partner, and further investigation is ongoing."
Both accused have been taken into custody, and police said a further probe is underway to establish all the circumstances surrounding the killing.
