A 35-year-old autorickshaw driver was allegedly killed in a brutal attack in Agra in Uttar Pradesh after being set on fire by his former live-in partner, her newly married husband and several associates. The incident was reported from the Shahganj area, police said.
The victim, identified as Chand alias Saddam, was targeted after he allegedly refused to delete old photographs and videos stored on his phone that showed him with the woman involved in the case. The attack reportedly occurred while he was returning home after completing a passenger drop.
According to a report published by Times of India, Chand, who lived in Ram Swaroop Colony near Prithvinath Phatak, was intercepted on February 27 in the Dauretha area. The accused allegedly blocked his autorickshaw, forced him out of the vehicle near Bilasganj and took him to a secluded location.
Police sources said petrol was poured on him before he was set on fire. A local resident reportedly heard his screams and rushed to help, after which he was taken to hospital. He was initially admitted to SN Medical College Agra before being shifted to a private facility. However, he later died from his injuries on the night of March 4.
Family members claimed that the woman had been in a relationship with Chand for nearly two years following the death of her husband. She recently married her brother-in-law, identified as Allee Ahmed.
Relatives further alleged that the woman had been pressuring Chand to remove old photos and videos of the two from his phone, a demand he reportedly refused to fulfil.
